How we work

Promoting a global alliance for water footprint reduction

We are building a global alliance of organizations focused on tackling the industrial water footprint, which accounts for nearly 90% of global water use.

Conceived as a collaborative effort aligned with SDG 17, the initiative brings together corporations, NGOs, universities and institutions with a shared goal: accelerating the transition to Water Positive practices and addressing water scarcity at scale.

At the heart of this effort is a shift in how water is sourced. The alliance promotes the use of unconventional water resources, one of the few viable ways to generate the volumes needed to offset industrial demand, particularly in water-stressed regions. Efficiency and conservation have made progress, but they are no longer enough on their own.

Through this network, we aim to enable collaboration, knowledge sharing and the adoption of coordinated strategies to meaningfully reduce the industrial water footprint.

By linking expertise with action, the initiative moves beyond theory, helping drive innovation, strengthen resilience and advance a more sustainable and equitable water future.

We welcome collaboration with organizations committed to this transition, with the ambition that by 2050 we can help shift the current course toward a more sustainable water future.
